Starting off the New Year

This past weekend I celebrated Vietnamese New year! I think I'm lucky because I get to celebrate new year twice a year. I absolutely love lunar new year because it reminds me of how much I love my Vietnamese roots and culture. During lunar new year, I learned that we have a lot of superstition and traditions. Its silly but I still follow it because I grew up practicing it so it just makes sense. A few things that I've learned throughout the years is:

-We wear red/ yellow (gold) or just basically bright colors because it brings good luck, especially the color red.

-Adults give out li xi (red envelopes) to the younger generation because it will bring them good luck. In order for the kids to get the red envelopes we have to wish them good wealth and prosperity.

-We gamble ...just because LOL

-Tet (New Year) is a week long celebration. We like to party hard. And each day we honor something or someone different.

-What ever happens on the first day of the year is "supposedly" going to happen all year. So people tend to avoid doing thing that are considered "bad luck"

That's just a few fun facts but I'm sure there are many more that I've missed.

Lunar New Year this year landed on Valentine's weekend so I had the perfect dress to ring in the new year with and it was also Valentine's day/weekend appropriate. Even though the dress was the prime piece to my outfit, what really tied my outfit together was the earrings! I absolutely adore these earrings. Hoops are really making a come back. I remember wearing hoops all the time back in high school. But these hoops are nothing like the hoops I had worn in the past. The hoops I'm wearing are Kendra Scott.
